We wouldn’t have thaught that the time when Palm introduces a smartphone based on its new operating system may be much farther away than ever. That’s true. The company announced in a press release that it is currently developing its own operating system based on Linux. This new operating system also includes important parts of the Garnet OS (formerly Palm OS 5).
Palm declared that the devices running this new operating system would be launched before the end of this year. In July, though, the company’s CEO said that the introduction of the first model running it wouldn’t happen until 2008.
Palm’s current device don’t allow a user to make a voice call and wirelessly access the Internet at the same time and this limitation is caused by the age of its old operation system. The delays in the next generation of the Palm OS mean that its fans will have another year of models running an operating system that first debuted in 2002.
