According to Intel executives, the chip manufacturer company will shutdown its Phillippines division. The Intel Technology Philippines Inc Division is the second offshore assembly opreations centre and it until now, it served as an important test location for company’s new products.
“In an effort to keep employees informed, Intel has updated its employees that significant investments would be required to ensure the long-term viability of its factory building in Cavite,” an Intel spokesman declared during the press conference on April 2. “Intel would like to reiterate that it has made no decision on this matter and is currently exploring multiple options,” he also added.
The Philippines division has more than 3,000 employees and is primary concern is manufacturing chipsets and processors but it also deals with designing flash memory chips. While the chipset and CPU divisions are set to a shutdown, the flash memory operation might be moved to Numonyx.
The move away decision will defenetly affect the country’s economy, as Intel was one of the primary players on the electronics market.

Belive it or not, Intel’s widely-discussed Centrino Atom processor / system controller for MIDs is now available. The processors run at maximum clock speeds of 800MHz, 1.1GHz, 1.33GHz, 1.6GHz, and 1.8GHz and cost $45, $45, $65, $95, and $160, but in 1,000-unit quantities, which is very used way of quoting chip prices.
Wait! Those are the prices per 1,000 units, which are lower than Intel’s Core 2 Duo mobile processors, which range in price from $637 to $209 in 1,000-unit quantities, according to Intel’s March 25 price list (pdf document).

If you heard about NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800 GTX benchmarks, and they have really met your expectations, now you can actually buy one. According to some sources , the 9800 can be had for the low price of $329.99. That would be wonderful, but we still need the official price to be announced.
Here are some of GeForce 9800 GTX’s specifications :
- Chip Technical process : 65- nm
- Producer: TSMC
- More than one billion transistors (681 mln. in G80, on which is built GeForce 8800 GTX)
- Support FP 64- bits
- Support GPGPU
- Performance is more than 1 TFLOPS (trillion of operations with the floating point per second, in 8800 GTX this value is equal to 520 GFLOPS)
- 512- bit memory system bus (384 bits in G80)
- UP To 1024 mb memory GDDR4
- Support directX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0
- eDRAM memory as buffer, that ensures free 4- multiple anti-Aliasing (used now in gaming consoles)
- Built-in audio chip with HDMI
- Improved algorithms AA and AF
AMD Phenom 9700 and 9900 to be delayed
January 11, 2008
Things are getting bad to worse for AMD, who slipped the shipping date of their 2.4GHz Phenom 9700 and 2.6 GHz 9900 CPUs. Initially announced for Q1, it seems that the quad-core CPUs are now expected for Q2 2008. We don’t know for sure, but we think that their 2.8GHz and 3GHz processors, which were expected in late Q2, will also slip their shipping date. Anyway, a lot of AMD’s fans will be very dissapointed to hear about this delay, especially when they will find out that AMD made this decision to maximize sale of existing processor line-ups. Meanwhile, AMD is expected to focus on its tri-core “Toliman” processors.

December 15, 2007
Well, Intel late Friday revealed the world’s smallest SSD chips ever released, and even if they went crazy with the dimensions, they certainly didn’t left the capacity behind. The new Intel Z-p140 PATA SSD chips come in 2GB capacity for now and the 4GB model will be available by the middle of 2008. In the future, the manufacturer will also launch a 16GB SSDs. What can we say about the weight of this kind of SSDs ? It weights just 0.02 ounces, as much as a paper clip and it’s no larger than a penny. Another interesting thing regarding this one, is that is still faster than most any flash-based memory cards and it can read with 40MB per second while writing at 30MB per second.

According to Intel, the combination with a standard Parallel ATA connection gives the Z-P140 the possibility to serve as an extremly small hard drive for virtually any operating system without the need of special controllers. We think that Intel is going to show off their chips at CES in January but we can’t be sure when will they hit the market.
Fujitsu announces the first 320 GB laptop harddrive
November 28, 2007
Fujitsu, one of the major calculus system producers wordwide, has announced the first hard-disk with a 320 GB storage capability for portable computers. The new series MHZ2 BH uses the perpendiculary storage technique and a planetary rotation system of 5400 RPM.

The SATA interface guarantees a reading speed of aproximatively 300 Mbit/s, and the reading/writing delays are of about 12 ms, respectively 14 ms. Available from february 2008 at a unspecified price tag, the Fujitsu hard-drive has a 1.9 W consumption rate in work mode and 0.6 W in idle mode.

November 19, 2007

As expected, AMD has launched the quad-core Phenom which provides a new platform codenamed “Spider”. This platform combines AMD Phenom quad-core processors, ATI Radeon HD 3800 series graphics, and AMD 7-series chipsets with CrossFireX and AMD OverDrive software for what AMD calls the “Ultimate Visual Experience.” To make a short review of this quad-core, the HD 3800 cards are very good for mid-range graphics, and the 7-series chipset is ok but AMD should roll-on those clock speed beyond the 2.2GHz Phenom 9500 ($251), 2.3GHz Phenom 9600 ($283) and 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz Phenon 9700 and 9900, in case they want to pull ahead Intel’s quad-core offerings. AMD’s products will be available in Q1 2008 for only $300 and 350$, respectively.

September 27, 2007
Bang & Olufsen Fom 2 are a pair of headsets, but not of the ordinary kind, but ones that wish to transpose acoustic quality of the Bang & Olufsen sound systems into a mobile toy, which allows you to enjoy your favorite songs on the road or at home, without any disruption from the outside. Of course this task isn’t a easy one, but the producers state that this pair of headsets achieve a perfect balance between bass, high and medium sounds, and those who’ve tested it apparently vouch for it.
Form 2 impresses through it’s looks, in the true Bang & Olufsen spirit, the square shaped design of the acoustic unit is dazzling. The previous doesn’t have noise cancelling technology, so that it’s perfect for outside use, where it’s quite dangerous not to hearing in your sorroundings. On the first place however are ergonomics and confort , Form 2 being very light (68 g) and built in with a 3m cable, a bit too long to fit in the mobility concept, if we were to be a little critic…
Bang & Olufsen Form 2 seem to be the perfect headsets which combines quality with ravishing style. Even I, who can’t stand “over the head” sets has to admit it. Besides they aren’t even incredibly expensive, at just 100$ for a Bang & Olufsen, it’s a bargain.
